EMTA TO EXPAND TOKEN TRANSIT TO PENNWEST EDINBORO RIDERS
Erie, PA- PennWest University, Edinboro Campus students will soon utilize the Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority’s Token Transit app as a bus pass.
EMTA and PennWest Edinboro have had a long-standing relationship in which university students and staff can ride any EMTA fixed route bus free of charge with their valid university ID. In addition to fix route services, EMTA has provided paratransit buses as a shuttle system via the “PennWest Edinboro Express” on campus. The EMTA implemented updated digital fare collection validator in their fixed route buses in April 2026 and is ready to expand the services to its partners.
EMTA and PennWest Edinboro’s Student Government Association are able to use the Token Transit technology to better collect analytics on how and when university riders are utilizing the system.
University riders will simply collect a pass in their email and link it to their Token Transit app. When boarding the bus, the rider will scan their pass on the validators located at the front of the bus as a way of settling their fare.
“We are excited to launch Token Transit with PennWest Edinboro for this fall semester,” says Jeremy Peterson CEO of EMTA. “The Student Government Association will now have solid data as a way to make informed decisions about transportation needs for their student body.”
Existing PennWest University, Edinboro campus students will receive an email in July prompting them to claim their pass with Token Transit. This new pass program will go live on August 1st.
The implementation of Token Transit technology with PennWest University, Edinboro Campus has come at no additional cost to the students, as EMTA’s services are paid for by student activity fee funding For more information on EMTA’s university programs, visit ride-the-e.com/university-services/.
